Originally from England, I learned Italian as an adult. I’ve been exactly where you are now, so I’m good at putting myself in your shoes and explaining things in a simple way. You can think of me as your tour guide for the Italian language. When you’re learning, it’s important to enjoy yourself and keep a good sense of humour – remember, everyone makes mistakes!

Ciao! I was born in Naples but I’ve been a resident of Milan for many years.

I love languages but I’m allergic to grammar books. I much prefer learning a language by listening and trying to communicate with people, even if I'm only starting with a few words.

In many ways you could say I’m a very typical Italian – I enjoy cooking, I know quite a bit about wine and I love being by the sea. But in other ways I’m not very Italian at all – people describe me as soft-spoken, I typically arrive early and I never talk with my hands!

Hello everyone,

I'm Mary! I was originally born in India and I've always lived in Monza, Italy.

I have eight-year-long experience in teaching Italian to foreign students. In the past, I taught Italian in China for a few months.

At the moment, I'm trying to pursue my two passions: studying Chinese and spending time with my dogs.

When learning a language, it is important not to be shy and always try to jump into conversations. The more mistakes you make, the better!

Ciao! I'm from Milan but I've lived in Brussels, Belgium, for what feels like a heck of a long time. I love tennis, ballroom dancing and cocktail mixing. Good food is also something I couldn't live without!

My absolute biggest passion, though, is learning, using and teaching foreign languages. This is probably why I've learnt about a dozen over the years, working as a translator and online language instructor for most of my life. I'm always eager to try and explain complex concepts in simple words: just ask, and I'll do my best! :)

Learning a Language: What should I focus on?

Ciao! I was born and raised in Milan, but my family originates from Puglia, which I'm very proud of. For this reason, my friends call me polpetta (meatball).

I love languages, but I get bored when studying them on books. I'd rather listening to people telling me about their stories. I enjoy the sounds of a language, learning about its culture and, of course, traditional food. I'm curious by nature. I could ask a bazillion questions about all things culture.

"Less is more" is my life motto, in fact you'll find me behind the scenes, where I do my best to make things simple for our students and our teachers.

Diana

Diana

I'm from Pisa but currently living in Nottingham, in the UK.

I've taught Italian since 2020. I've always loved my own native language, including the grammar and learning new vocabulary. That's why at some point I decided to change my life and start studying to teach Italian... and I really love it!

When learning a new language, I think something essential is having a relaxed and fun atmosphere. And of course, that's what we as teachers are trying to create: a friendly environment! So, remember: always have fun while learning Italian! 😉

Annaluna

Annaluna

I’m Italian and I live in a tiny village in the countryside between Venice and Treviso, two cities that I love. I’ve been teaching Italian online for almost 4 years, both for individual and group lessons. This is my dream job: it feels like I’m building a bridge between cultures. When I learn (and I teach) a language I like to focus on culture to understand the traditions and the mentality of the other person. I love the sea and photography and I can’t live without music!

Marzia

Marzia

Hello! I'm Marzia, I'm Italian and I live in Zagarolo, a small town in the province of Rome.

I started my journey with teaching Italian at university. I helped Erasmus students learn the language. It was a lot of fun being in touch with people my age and going out together in the afternoon for an aperitif.

When I learn a language, I try to acquire good pronunciation. I believe that working on this aspect is essential to ensure effective communication among peers (not to mention how satisfying it is to hear someone say, "Wow, what a beautiful pronunciation!")

I have been a sports enthusiast all my life. I started with competitive swimming and now I do CrossFit. I'm also an artist, I enjoy creating black and white portraits of famous actors. Something fun... I have a knack for combining unlikely ice cream flavours, my favourite being melon with chocolate!

Blessy

ciao!

Blessy

Hello! I'm Blessy! I'm here to make you fall in love with the Italian language, one laugh at a time. What I love about my job is the interaction with students because I learn a lot from their culture as well. I am passionate about chatting and teaching the language naturally through conversation, creating a relaxed and stimulating environment.

My passions? The afternoon nap, good food (hehe, eating is one of my favourite "subjects"), and theatre. Get ready to laugh, learn, and embark on this language adventure with me and the amazing Joy of Languages family!

Cristina

ciao!

Cristina

I live in Reggio Emilia, the city of the Italian tricolore (the Italian flag) and erbazzone (savoury pie with spinach and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese).

Books, nature and, indeed, erbazzone are the things I could never give up.

I started teaching Italian almost without realizing it: I liked doing online language exchanges and realised that I really enjoyed helping people learn my language, so I thought it would be great to make it a job, and...I was right!

I believe that to learn a language it's important to be patient, not afraid to make mistakes, and to have a lot of fun.

Ciao! I am from Marsala, a beautiful coastal town in Sicily and where 'Marsala' wine is made. In 2013, after 2 years of living in Australia, I moved to New Zealand and Auckland is now my second home.

I love cooking Italian meals and feeding my friends, I also enjoy painting and beach walks.

I have always loved languages and, after graduating in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, I started teaching Italian to children and adults.

When learning a new language, I think it is important to immerse yourself as much as possible, find a community of learners to practise with and most importantly have fun!

Marco

Marco

Ciao! My name is Marco, I am from Rome but I currently live in Lisbon.

I’ve been teaching Italian for almost 10 years and I love it! As a language student myself, I think the key to learning is creating a friendly environment where you are not afraid of talking and making mistakes! And most of all… having fun! I won’t let you leave our class until we all had a good laugh!

Irene B.

ciao!

Irene B.

My name is Irene and I'm from Rome. I live and work here as a tour guide and Italian teacher. I've had the opportunity to travel and live in different countries like Germany, Turkey, and Japan, where I could get to know new cultures and, above all, practise the languages I was studying.

The best way to learn a language? By speaking, speaking, and speaking :) Listening to others speaking is very helpful, and you always have to "dive in" without being afraid of making mistakes. I love studying new languages... although I have to admit... sometimes I get confused and might use a French word while talking to a German :)... it happens...
